  1. Hi all im i currently use Easy Video Joiner & Easy Video Splitter for joining & splitting for joining avi & mpeg files. What i really want is a free app that will do the same but within one app, any recommendations would be great.

I am a noob so the simpler the program the better.

Take a look in this forum under tools. There are a bunch, and they are rated by popularity...

Maybe you should just buy some magical video editing tool pixie dust instead?

Perhaps you could submit the tool you have to the tools page, seeing as you're convinced it's so much better than anything this site has to offer.

Windows Movie Maker on XP should handle your AVI splitting and joining needs quite nicely. I gave up on finding a free tool for non-mpeg streams.

Depends on what you mean by splitting and joining.

    1. If all you want is to be able to cut the file up so it can be archived to disc, later to be re-assembled, then what you have should do nicely. Other binary splitter/joiners should also do well, perhaps even better/faster.

    2. If you want to edit a video (including losing "commercials"), then those tools aren't very good, as you'll run the risk of frame drops & major sync & playback problems. Use a "video editor" (AVI, MOV, MPG, WMV, etc).

  10. Mister Flonk-Flonk have you got a link where i can get some of that magical video editing tool pixie dust it sounds a holl lot better then the apps listing in tools.

mstone321 while i am using xp i have removed wmp with nlite because i found no use with it but maybe i shall download it and try it again, cheers.

Cornucopia what i mean by joining and splitting is, joining simply joining to 2 media files on my pc together. By Splitting i mean having say a media file 30 minutes long and putting a marker at 10 minutes and another at 20 minutes it ill then cut out the bit in the middle i.e. the time frame 10-20 minutes.

Spend the next year writing an app to do it, then make it free.

If you aren't even willing go outside and dig your own ditch, you have no reason to expect anyone else to have gone outside and dug a ditch for you for free..

Not knowing that it's complicated doesn't mean it's simple. What you mean is wrong, you need an editor not a joiner/splitter. Splitting and joining at the right places for video to not have problems is very different than just splitting and joining a file at any point to make smaller files. Video editing fairy crack won't make it any easier either..
