Am I correct in thinking that a PC built and optimized for NLE would also do a great job as an audio editing machine?
I would be dual-booting - one OS for video, one for audio and each would not "see" the other. Hard drives for each purpose would also be separate.

Yeah, what SLK001 said. But, I don't see the need for dual boot and separate "systems", especially since video and audio are so intertwined.
