I have a .mpg file shot from a digital camera, it's about 1.6mb (10s) or so.

I am using it as a test before I spend a lot of time editing footage I have shot over the years of the family (yawn).

Whenever I import it into imovie I get the video but no sound - it plays perfectly in Quicktime.

I did a properties search on it and it came up as mpeg1 muxed.

I therefore did a demux through ffmpegx to mpeg2, avi and divx, but each time I get two independent video and audio tracks, but I can never import the audio into imovie.

DOes anyone know what I am doing wrong? I can make avaialble the original file if needed.

Thank you. I don't know a lot about this but enough to understand about the different formats, muxing etc.

  2. You may convert the mp2 audio track into mp3.

Can I do that in ffmpegx or in Quicktime?

  4. Yes, open the mp2 file, select the "Audio file to mp3" target format and click Encode.
