  1. Is there a patch? A comparable free program that will work?

For what? Shrink is for backing up/transcoding commercial discs, mostly.

  3. what for are you trying to edit? or make copies? Either way your best bet is to rip it to your hard drive and burn it from there. That's how I've done it, and if you want to edit, you're better off just capturing it into an editable format. Format encoders and converters didn't seem to work for me.

This camera spits out "eneditable", half hour mini DVDs. It creates clips and finalizes with a cheesy menu --- click the clip you want and away you go.

I want to pick the clips I want, maybe shorten them in DVD Shrink and then burn them onto a new, full-sized DVD in the order I want. The thing is, they seem to want to stay loyal to their respective menus they recieved when they were burned in the camera. Can I strip them down and line them up?

    Then, I make copies.

Also, when you say "capture" into and editable format, do you mean to say "Get a different camera" or do you mean capture it analog style into a hardware or software recorder?

No offense, but you will find in quick time that Mini DV was a bad choice if you want to capture and edit using a PC using the DV Disc it creates. It's just a gimmick to lure the consumer in, just like the drive thru at McDonalds. We all want it fast and now!

If you can play this dvd on your dvd player then you can rip it with dvd decriptor. Then dvd shrink can read it. If dvd shrink can not read this then your doing something wrong.
