I've seen a number of posts on here where people have been complaining that the ink smudges after they've printed on inkjet printable media with Epson R200/300 printers. There was one thread a while ago comparing different types on spray laquer that could be used to seal the ink and stop it from smudging even.
At some point, somebody mentioned that they didn't suffer any of these problems using a Canon printer. As I needed a new printer anyway, I had a look at what was available. Printing on discs wasn't the main reason but if I could do it I would regard it as a bonus. The UK consumers association recently did a test on inkjet printers and marked them on speed, quality of print, running costs, etc and the top three were all Canon printers.
I went out and bought a Canon PIXMA iP3000 printer ( http://www.canon-europe.com/For_Home/Product_Finder/Printers/Bubble_Jet/PIXMA_iP3000/i...PageID=26389#1 ) and it is bloody brilliant!! Not only is the print quality excellent and reasonably quick, the results printing onto inkjet printable discs are perfect. Not only that, they are dry and do not smudge straight from the printer. It can also do duplex printing and is cheap! Around £70 (about $130 US) online.
So if anyone wants to print onto discs, forget the Epsons and buy a Canon. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I think it was me that mentioned a canon i865 and no smudging whatsoever. Quite a number of other people did mention that they don't have smudging with Epsons though, so one must wonder exactly what discs these people that were experiencing smudging were using (probably shiny-tops
) and what setttings they had their printer on (best quality / use most ink) or something ?
If in doubt, Google it. -
For the record, I have never experienced a problem with my Epson R200. Every disc I print comes out dry and I have not experienced any smudging. My guess is that people that experience those problems are not using the correct type of ink, and if they do the same with a Canon printer, they will experience the same type of problems.
Edit: Oh yeah, it could be the wrong type of discs too. (Thanks, Jimmy)"Shut up Wesley!" -- Captain Jean-Luc Picard

I've printed over 30 dvd's with my EPSON R300, and haven't had a single problem. Even when handling the dvd's shortly after printing. Maybe those other people didn't have their print settings adjusted properly, or were using nockoff inks..

100+ on epson r200, no smudges or runs in ink. If your worried about smudges then why not buy a can of clear coat gloss and spray it on the dvd after the ink has dried. I started doing that recently just becasue it gave the dvd a shiny glossy look. Seemed to brighten the quality of the dvd cover.
