When VFW application (like VDub, freeVCR etc) is started under W2K/XP it cannot enable sound and goes mute sometimes.
Here is a little program which allows to enable/disable sound on video capture card. You can put this puppy into cmd file for running your application prior to it or run it separately.

Some applications, designed for old VFW interface (VirtualDub, FlyCap, Vidcap32 )
may lose sound when running under Windows2000 or XP with some WDM drivers.
SoundOn application allow you to control audio input pins on WDM driver crossbar.
Examples:
SoundOn.exe without parameters (tuner audio in)
SoundOn.exe -1 (mute)
SoundOn.exe 0 (tuner audio in)
SoundOn.exe 1 (line audio in)
SoundOn.exe 2 (line audio in)
SoundOn.exe 3 or more (tuner audio in)
