  1. Bought this DVD player because it's suppose to support CDRW's. I tried copying some MP3's and VCD files onto
    CDRW's. It seems to find at least one track on the
    CDRW's and starts to play them but no sound or video come
    out on the TV. What am I doing wrong?

    I've tried both Verbatim and Imation CDRW's. Is there
    a special way to write to the CDRW's to make them
    readable? Do certain medias not work?

    I tried putting some MP3's on a CDR and the Pioneer
    plays those fine.

    Help!

  2. On my 440.

    I use Verbatim CDRW (old 2x disc) for making test VCDS and SVCDs. It works fine every time.

    I use VCDImager to make VCD images from mpeg files. I use fireburner to burn these images. No problems whatsoever.

    The user's manual says that 440/444 cannot read some CD-R(W) in the following cases:
    1) their surface is scratched or dirty;
    2) the lens is dirty;
    3) the CD-R(W) is not finalized;
    4) wrong burning software options used.

    Otherwise, the unit must be replaced/repaired as not meeting its specifications. This is my understanding of the problem.

  4. Thanks for the suggestions.

    I've been using brand new Verbatim and Imation CDRW's and they aren't on the 'terrible' list under the media reviews so I don't think that's the problem.

    How do you 'finalize' a CDRW? I know some CDR's need to be 'closed' before they can be read by some machines. How do you 'close' a CDRW?

    What may be some of the wrong options with burning soft ware? At first I thought the problem was using MP3's ripped with VBR encoding. But I tried some MP3's with fixed encoding rate, without success.

    I'm going to try VCDImager next.
