I use that adapter to go from the DVI port of a ATI 9550 Radeon card to the component inputs of my video projector for over-the-air HDTV and videos. I don't game, though. The adapter works well for me.

The HD adapter, instructions and drivers. Note that a standard computer monitor is needed to activate and control the HD output (dual monitor) so don't expect it to work with just a HDTV set. You need both. They don't tell you that in the FAQ but I think everything else is there.

Entirely incorrect. 480p is exactly 720x480 at 60 frames per second. 480p pixels will always be non-square and come in either 4:3 and 16x9 aspect ratios.

    From that link:
"1024x768 is closest to 720p and will generally look best on that HDTV resolution."

Also incorrect. 720p is 1280x720 (16x9) at 60 frames per second and most HDTV sets expect that resolution, not 1024 x768.

  11. I've decided on the Radeon X800XL. It's made specificaly for HD output.

My set has 1200 L of resolution. So I should run 1280X720. I think I will need "Powerstrip" to do that.

    What about overscan?

    ATI x800 will output YPrPb 720p (1280x720) or 1080i (1920x1080) to a HDTV.

yep..all the newer radeon cards come with the ability to display at the HDTV resolutions. I have the 9800 pro and I am wanting to try and hook it up on my parents 55" HD. I think it will only do 480p or 1080i.

Is the adapter absolutly necessary or can you go straight from the DVI of the card to the DVI of the HDTV?

  15. DVI is fine I believe but my HDTV only has component that's why I'm going that route.

  16. Ok, cards in and up and running. Tried it on my HDTV. It will run the 1920X1080 for the desktop, although with the overscan a slightly less setting is better.

Can't seem to force Madden 2005 to use that setting though. No selection for it. Just the usual X by X settings.

Can't seem to get it to work even with Powerstrip.
