    howzit ppl,

please give me some advice on what to do. my graphics card has an HDMI slot and got the HDMI adapter with, now i've also got a BenQ 22" FullHD LDC screen, i want to play my games in HD, but as soon as i connect the DVI sub( LCD screen) to the HDMI adapter the screen does not come on, but as soon as i connect the screen normally to the screen card's DVI port the screen works just fine.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

    thanks

  2. The HDMI port may be more limited in the resolutions it supports. Make sure you are set to a supported resolution and refresh rate. Typically 1280x720p60, 1920x1080i30, or 1920x1080p60.

  3. DVI is digital so you will not gain anything using HDMI, as jagabo mentioned you are limited to certain resolutions with HDMI.
I recommend using DVI if your monitor has a DVI port.

  4. Also, the HDMI port may overscan so a few percent of the picture will be cut off on all four edges.

All of the above are perfect points. Just one other possibility if all else fails, one of the connections may not work and you will have to RMA.

Example: the dvi will work but the hdmi has a bad connection or something.

I've seen a lot of bad reviews about this happening. Just a possibility though.

another possiblity could be lack of hdcp compatilibity in either device. I don't know if pc games are incorporating hdcp encryption these days or not. But if your pc graphics card that outputs the hdmi is not fully hdcp compliant you will have issues. Likewise with your monitor. Even though it says "fullhd" that may only refer to the available resolutions. It will also need to be hdcp compliant.

Again I am not sure if pc gaming these days incorporate hdcp or not. But its another factor to consider. This certainly applies to bluray playing - hdcp must be present for full hd in both the output device and receiving device (ie computer and monitor resepectively).
