latest quicktime update broke mp3 decoder

using the default avi mencoder to encode an mpeg 2 file no longer contains sound with the defaults unchanged.

before the upgrade the avi would include the mp3 encoded sound. when the resulting movie opened in quicktime shows no soundtrack in the info pane.

what did those guys at apple do this time. the update fixed some major problems I had before with toast and other video applications and my formac dv converter, but as usual something other annoyance occurs.

also I installed DVD Studio Pro 4.

are there some known issues between DVD Sudio Pro 4 and the latest Quicktime 7 update and the mp3 decoder?

where is it supposed to be

not knowing where to look, I'm using spotlight, there's only text documents and folders with the name but no decoder.

who stole it? DVD Sudio 4 compressor or Quictime 7 latest update.

I think it's supposed to be in the library somewhere.

well I found the divx mp3 encoder with retrospect from a backup and placed in the quictime folder of the root library.

and I can see and use the the encoder in quicktime as mpeg layer 3 in the quicktime export sound options but I still get so sound track when I use ffmpegx as I did before updating quicktime 7 or installing DVD Studio Pro 4.
one of these or maybe even the update to iTunes 5 is responsible

who wants to be first to solve my or this (our in general, if you are experiencing a similar issue) problem?

nevermind. it was never able to encode my eyetv mpegs with AC3 sound. I have to use MPEG Streamclip for my eyetv recordings.
