I wrote to JVC consumer support and informed them of the problem and the well known problems with the power supply. I also asked if the warranty would cover it as it was a well known problem. They wrote back about a week later and said what I had quoted only related to the USA model and I had to contact my local JVC service agents to have a look at it. So I took it in and phoned 3 days later and they said it was ready for pick up. On the repair sheet it said "Repaired Power Supply Set Up". The parts cost was £4.33 and labour was £33.19. After taxes I had to pay £44.09.
I got home and attatched everything and switched on. After a few seconds of nervous waiting the Loading screen disappeared and everything was great as all my old recordings were all there. I was quite happy with the cost really. Anyway about 3 days later I switched off the machine. It said Goodbye for about 1 minute and then switched itself back on. I tried to switch off again and it got stuck on the Goodbye screen. The only way to get rid of this was to cut the power completely. After putting the power back on guess what, could not get past the Loading screen. I phoned up the repair company but they were shut. So I just turned the power off.
I went to work next day, came home and noticed the JVC was back on as normal. The wife had put the switch down by accident but it had come on as normal.
It has been okay for about 5 days now. I'm still nervous about it and am transferring everything on there onto DVD's just in case. Once I get everything transferred I will only use it if I really have to as I record most things on my Sky Box now. You never know it may last for years yet. All the best everyone.
