I have a movie in kvcd format as an image file, put on a cdr an it doesnt work in my home dvd player. I know dvdr discs will play fine but I can't find software that will convert this. Id even be happy to get it in an avi format then it would be easy but the quality might suffer.

KVCD is not a format of any kind. It usually does not work in players. You need to extract the MPEG and convert it to a compliant format of some sort.

Use isobuster to extract the mpeg, load it to virtualdub mpeg 2, add msu_deblocking filter, resize to 352 x 576/480, frameserve to TMPGenc and re-encode to half D1 DVD

There's many variations on KVCDs in terms of different frame size as well as the mandatory non-standard GOP length (which is what makes KDVDs non-compliant DVDs, irregardless of what Kwag says). You definitely need to extract the MPEG out of the image first, then I would suggest loading the file into GSpot (the latest Beta V2.52) so you get a snapshot of exactly what it is that you have. You need to get it to a DVD-compliant state, which will more than likely require a re-encode.
    If in doubt, Google it.
