  1. Hi,

I'm newbie and need a lot of help here...

My friend gave me a Sony DVD-RW 1.4GB (for handycam) disc that contain his wedding video.

He ask me if I could convert the video into VCD.

So, what I'm planning to do was, copy the vob file to my hd and then convert it to mpeg1 for making VCD.

The problem is when I browse the disc using Windows Explorer, I couldn't see any files in it. But the disc play fine using PowerDVD (except the time slider will reach the end of the time bar and stay there, just after a few seconds playing).

Then I try to rip the disc using DVD Decrypter. In File or IFO mode, I get an error:

"UDF file system parsing failed. Reason: Unable to find VIDEO_TS folder".
But I can rip the disc successfully using ISO mode, and the output are 2 files with the extension *.iso and *.mds.

I try to open *.iso file in DVD Shrink and got this error msg:

"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Invalid UDF filesystem. The system cannot find the file specified."
Then I try to extract that *.iso file with ISOEdit, WinISO, Magic ISO and ISOBuster. Only ISOBuster can open the file. Here is what I get from ISOBuster:

    --DVD_RTAV
    --VR_MANGR.IFO 32kb
    --VR_MANGR.BUP 32kb
    --VR_MOVIE_VRO 913.78 MB

This is the info I get from DVD Decrypter:

    HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4163B A104
    Current Profile: DVD-RW

    Disc Information:
    Status: Complete
    Erasable: Yes
    Sessions: 1
    Sectors: 716,192
    Size: 1,466,761,216 bytes
    Time: 159:11:17 (MM:SS:FF)

    Pre-recorded Information:
    Manufacturer ID: TDK502sakuM3

    Recording Management Area Information:
    SONY DDX-C1000

    Physical Format Information (Last Recorded):
    Book Type: DVD-RW
    Part Version: 2
    Disc Size: 80mm
    Maximum Read Rate: 10.08Mbps
    Number of Layers: 1
Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP)
    Linear Density: 0.267 um/bit
    Track Density: 0.74 um/track
First Physical Sector of Data Area: 196,608
Last Physical Sector of Data Area: 912,799
Last Physical Sector in Layer 0: 0

I guess the video file is in the VR_MOVIE_VRO folder. But I can't extract the file yet cause this just a demo version of ISOBuster.

I've also tried to open the disc using TMPGEnc DVD Author but with no luck. (coz I read somewhere that TDA can access the DVD_RTAV folder directly from the disc)

    So, my question:

    1) Is there any other software (freeware maybe) to extract the *.ISO file? It seems only

ISOBuster can recognize this kind of ISO file while the others fail. Is it normal?

    2) If I can eventually extract it, what is the best software (freeware maybe) to convert it

to mpeg1 for making a VCD?

    3) Why I cannot see any file in the disc in Windows Explorer?

    4) Am I doing all this the right way? Is there any other simple way?

FYI, Im using Win98se and LG GSA-4163B DVD burner.

    Thanks a lot in advanced...

p/s: Sorry for my really really bad English. And I'm really not sure if i'm asking in the right section.... sorry again...

I think that tmpgenc xpress supports it....but tmpgenc dvd author should also support dvd-vr...

or try just rename the vro to mpg and open in tmpgenc xpress and convert to vcd.

    and read https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1360434

    His wedding on a VCD?
His wife is going to break him in half someday.
I would make him a DVD too, just in case.

If he objects, tell him to shut up, it's for the wife.

  5. Hahahaha.... thanks lordsmurf.... I'll tell him that...

Hmmm... I think i got some clue for my question (no. 3). I just read somewhere that Windows cannot read DVD-RW because its not supported UDF 2.0 and higher yet.... so, i should use Nero InCD to be able to see the DVD-VR content, right???

    I'll try that tonight, maybe....

Thanks to all who help me....
