OK, so last week I decided to take a stab at making a SVCD to see the quality for myself. I used TMPGEnc and the SVCD template to encode it and the actual file was fine playing it directly in WMP. When I went to burn it in Nero 5.5 I found all these options I wasn't sure about in the Video CD tab under encoding bitate it gave the option to Fit to CD or User defined. In the compatibility button it had two options: Videos Directory with MPEG2 (standard) and MPEGAV. The second one Entries.SVD File Identification had EntryVCD (standard) and EntrySVD. I already consulted the guide about authoring SVCDs and it maked no mention about these setting (I think it refers to Nero 5.0).
So I burned the SVCD and popped it into my computer and nothing. Tried using ATI's DVD player, Asus DVD2000 and MaximusDVD, none worked. What settings should I use and what else should I check? I already made sure that I have the MPEG2 codec and the resulting file from TMPGEnc plays fine but the burned CD doesn't.

  3. Use VCDImager. All of the default settings will make a working SVCD.

  4. Also, you may have to use the file playing mode on your computer software. A lot of them don't actually understand the SVCD disc format, but they can play the MPEG in the MPEG2 folder.

Thanks kin. I already found out about the file mode part. Just don't understand though why WMP can read the file OK but when I burn it to disk and try to lpay that same file it say that it's an unrecognized format. Thanks
