no thank you, I'll just wait a bit and see what will happen on the marked before I jump to any quick decisions

That's the japanese model, menu is in japanese so before bidding, learn to read kanji
. Also you'd probably need an external tuner if you dont live in Japan. Iie, kekkou desu! :P

these have been for sale for over a year - nothing new ..
you can buy them retail in japan and in a few places in the states ..
there is an english manual around for it ... i played aroudn with one for awhile - but the disks were to expensive to play around much ...
plus they had no machine control - something i needed in hd playback .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
i wonder if these will even work with final spec commercial disks -- they have no copy protection on this machine

Too expensive and too early to buy HD at the moment. I would wait until seeing which one (Blu Ray or HD-DVD) wins or if they even co-exist.
Besides, first generation players always have problems to begin with. -
Even if you have the money, never buy first generation anything. You are paying 10x and it will quickly become obsolete as the standards improve and evolve.

that photo of the rear panel is shite, but all I'm seeing for video is 4 S-Video and 4 composite video...
Am I missing something?
Or does that 5th bank of outputs have some sort of HD, HDMI or DVI?
I'd definitely like a closer look at the back of that thing."To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research." - Steven Wright

the crazy thing about that ebay ad --
is that they are selling for $2624 US in the US
so why is it more than a $1000 more on ebay ?
and that one there may not be the latest version ...
here is the latest generation for sale in the USA -- WITH a 1 sheet english manual and ENGLISH controls
that is where we got ours from -- and there are other dealers around
ebay auction is a scam ....

Well, I see IEEE-1394 in/out. S-200
Is there any provision for HDTV? Or is this just a big DVDR?
"In case of satellite television signal recording in HDTV standard it's possible to store approximately 2 hours of high-quality video (1024i)."
That must come in as RF or maybe uses D-VHS TS stream over IEEE-1394.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

RF or D-VHS TS stream over IEEE-1394 - correct
these now have copy protection on them i see"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
LINE OUT - 3 - D1/D3/D4 - I think this is Japanese component out for Hi Definition.
I am saying this because I have Sony HDR-HC1 HDV camcorder and it has similar connector and came with the cable D4-to-Component connectors. -

The word on back are all in English, and the Japanese.
It seem to me, that there may has a option, switch to English instead of the Japanese.
Some my stuff at home, can have the English or Spanish displays. -
at $2600, this is rather cheap. With discs only costing $40 and capacity being able to hold full HD quality, I'd say these things are priced to move. Sure, the price may seem steep to some, but to technology geeks this is great and with no DRM to limit the consumer. When DVD-Rom first came out there was no such thing as rip-locks, DRM junk, or other nonsense. Now, you can't find a single drive or standalone without one or more of such garbage. Like those 1st generation Roms, this machine will continue to work. It maybe slow, it may not have all the bells and whistles of nth generations, and you may even pay nth times as much now for this, but in the long run, I'd bet those with nth generation models will complain about DRM protection while those of us with 1st generation tech sit back and laugh.
It should also be noted that 1st generation equipment uses more metal materials and is much more finely crafted and sturdy than the mass produced products of later generations. -
I think Ill wait til the prices are in the $150-200 range before I even consider buying blue-ray or hd dvd player. These first generation players are bound to have problems.

So how do you get more disks to recod to?
This plan is so bad, it must be one of ours. -
they are for sale at the same link i pointed out ..
$40 a disk , plenty of stock ..
these and other units have been made for over a year --
there is actually many blu ray recorders for sale by a few companies - just not in north America ...
and not cheap either .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
So is $40 going to be around the price once they hit the US?
This plan is so bad, it must be one of ours. -
well they are 40$ in the USA right now .. the link i gave is in the USA
i have no idea how much they will be in on year though -
DL took awhile before any price changes ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I'm assuming that these are RW disks? Cause it doesn't really say...
