I am new to this so any help would be appreciated. I have tried making backup copies of 2 different dvd's and had the same problem with both. I am using Sefi's guides but I must be missing something somewhere. Here is what I've been doing:
Using smartripper to read the dvd
Using dvd2avi and tmpg to encode to mpeg in svcd format (using the NTSCfilm SVCD template)
Using nero to burn to cd-r
When I start to play the movie in my standalone dvd player everything is ok, but as the movie goes on, the audio and video get further and further out of sync.
As this happened on both dvd's, I'm guessing that I a setting or procedure wrong somewhere. If someone can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Did you check to make sure the dvd frame rate was 23.97 film? You should always check this using preview in dvd2avi and then select the template that matches it, (film, ntsc, pal). If you don't match it you will get what you describe, also use toolame for you audio encoder in tmpenc, if you already didn't use it.

sommersby,
thanks for the info. i did use the preview but i may have misunderstood how to read the frame rate and select the right template. i will retrace my steps and see if that corrects the problem. also, i have not used toolame so i will try that too.
