Hope I'm in the right place here, but has anyone had any experience ripping a video file from an "enhanced" CD?

If you simply try to execute the mpeg file, it won't play without a related file that only seems to work through the CD menu... I'd like to be able to rip it so it will play separately.

    any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Dave

Have you tried using VCDGear to rip the video file? If it's really an MPEG file, VCDGear should be able to rip it.

Use ISOBuster to see what kind of "Enhanced CD" structure it really has.

If it's VCD with additonal audio tracks (ISO on 1st track, MPEGvideo on 2nd and upper tracks, except audio tracks at the end, standard VCD file structure within the ISO, all contained in 1 session), then all you need to do is "Extract, filtering M2F2" to get a clean MPG.

If it's a Multi-session Enhanced CD (with audio tracks in the 1st session, and data in 1st and only track of the 2nd session). Then you have to figure out what kind of container file format the video is in--AVI, QT, Real, MPG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, etc. You may have to copy the "viewer/player" app along with it, depending on how standardized or not it is.

    Hi guys --

Thanks for the suggestions... I've looked closer and turns out I didn't explain it quite right...

This is an .MOV file. If you double click you get this error msg:

"you may experience problems playing a video track "name.mov" because a valid media key to authorize access to a secured media file was not found. Would you like to close the movie or continue?"

If you continue, audio will play, just no picture.

There must be something in the "xtras" folder, but I'll be danged if I can find it...

    ring any bells with anyone?

    Thanks,

    Dave

I should mention this is an audio CD with 2 video clips as the "enhanced" part...

Quicktime MOV's have possibility for "Media Keys" which are a form of DRM--tied into a particular computer, account, media, server, etc. You have to have the "key" to be able to play the content.

Do you have Quicktime Pro? Might be possible (though not likely allowed) to do an Export to a similar format--but without the need for a media key.

Another thing that could be done would be to use a hex editor to disable the "media key" atom (data flag) within the quicktime file. However, even with the correct tools, this is quite complicated, not probable to work, and probably not allowed AFA intellectual property. So I'm gonna stay away from telling you how to do that. I like this board and don't want to get a mod PO'd.

Have you considered a video ScreenGrab?

    -or-

If you're just trying to back up the disc, I bet CloneCD will do an enhanced audio CD correctly for you.

    HTH and Good luck,

Thanks for the reply Scott -- when you said "DRM" it made perfect sense... I don't have QT Pro - sounds like it's not worth trying anyway... I just wanted to have the video on my hard drive to reference without dragging the CD out every time...

What's a "video ScreenGrab" by the way?

    Take care,
    Dave

Check the [ <--Tools ] section, search under "Screen Capture". You can capture as a still picture or as video. Some do one, some the other, some both.

Basically, they'll "record what you're displaying".

Try CAMSTUDIO to capture the video output.
    ICBM target coordinates:
    26° 14' 10.16"N -- 80° 16' 0.91"W

thanks for the suggestions, guys... I'm trying CamStudio right now but am having a hard time getting it to capture audio. Picture-wise, (with the frame rate all the way up) the capture doesn't look too bad...

    Best,
