2 days ago I found the firmware upgrade for my Raite Raite 108h DVD drive.The instructions were to boot to dos,and run the .bat file that was included in the zip file (instructions and the .bat file).I did this and ran the file,and completed it's job.It gave the instructions to reboot,so I did.After that,I could'nt boot to windows with the drive hooked up to the IDE cable.Its set,WAS set to Secondary master IDE2,along with a hard drive on secondary slave,and it wouldnt boot.I removed the dvd drive,and the computer continued to boot.The question is,can I reverse what I did,or is this drive dead,so that I may go out any buy another one?

Well, whenever you flash a drive you must always make sure it is the Master on the secondary IDE port, not sharing anything and defenetly not slave, so move it to the other IDE, and try to flash it again, or even get an older flash, it may restore the drive to normal.

What I meant by "WAS set as...." is that I removed the drive completely from the computer.Your suggestions unfortunatly did not work.I hooked the dvd drive back to the IDE2 Master without my IDE2 Slave HD hooked to it.The computer simply did not boot.It just wont boot.It freezes at the logo screen (before Bios detect screen,right after I turn on the puter).Damnit,i wish I wouldnt have flahed the bastard!!!

Can you open the tray when you first power up the pc, before the bios locks? I killed a drive with a bad flash - can't even open the tray or get a power light to show up.
You may want to try to get into your bios to check your settings if it will let you, something may have become skewed. It may be looking for a hd in that spot or the slave that isn't there so it is locking. Just an idea. -
Nope.Cant open it,and wont even give me light.I cant even get into my BIOS when its hooked up to the IDE cable (IDE2).I think the drive may be dead,it may be dead....

hmm.. drives don't die that easy, defenetly not from flashing, there is always a way out, unless the chip is fried because of a totaly incorrect firmware.
Have you tried creating a bootable Floppy with the Firmware and disconnecting everything from the IDE, and just having the DVD connected to the Primary IDE as a MAster, and then boot up from the Floppy ?

Sefy,I booted from floppy,with the firmware on it and without anything attached except for the dvd drive on the IDe1 master.I get to it and does not detect the dvd drive because the floppy doesnt have the cd drivers.Soo...I ran the firmare update file (tb.bat) and nothing happened.Soo..I ran the other file on there (rdwflash.exe) and give's me a list of flags.What should I type?
Usage:
MTKFLASH <ide port> <r:w> [/ax,/b] <filename>
/ax x=0 address 0-FFFF
x=1 address 10000-1FFF (default)
x=2 address 20000-2FFF
x=3 address 30000-3FFF
/b = Bin File (default Hex)
/e = Erase Flash Enable
Thanks in advance!

VCDsMakeMoney, use your Windows98 Bootable Floppy, it has the drivers for the CD, and then use the firmware floppy, use it as you did before when you flashed, just use the old firmware if you still have it, and see if the drive will get back to working.
Atleast you managed to boot the system with the DVD drive attached, so that is an improvment.

Okay ive done all that but....let me begin from the top real quick.
I bought the DVD drive.The only thing that came was the DVD Drive in a Brown Box.No drivers,nada!
I had the dvd drive on IDE2 MAster with a HD as slave (IDE1 had the MASTER HD).I found the new firmware 1.7 for the dvd drive I have Raite DVD RDR-108H (8x/40x).The instructions were to boot to DOS and run the .bat file to upgrade the firmware.I DID.It specifed to reboot.I DID.But this time,it just froze at the bootup screen.I tried to enter the bios,nothing,NOTHING! So..I took the DVD drive out.Restarted,and everthing worked fine.Now.....
I created a bootable Floppy and another one with the drivers of the dvd drive.Now in order for me to atleast get into DOS,WITH the DVD drive,I HAVE TO REMOVE EVERY DRIVE ON ANY IDE CABLEand stick the DVD DRIVE on IDE1 MAster (IDE2 WONT WORK).I did.And it went to dos.The drive still does nothing.In dos,it said "dvd device driver..." " IDE cd-rom NOT DETECTED" and I have the dvd drive on MASTER IDE1 (i also tried on IDE2 Master). I ran the firmware upgrade,it completed and told me to reboot (dejavu).I rebooted.And it still did nothing.My FINAL question is....SHOULD I KEEP TRYING TO FIX IT,*OR* BUY A NEW ONE (if so,SPECIFY ONE,A FAST ONE!)?

Did the drive ever work?
Does your bios see the drive at all, if not I don't think even booting to dos is going to fix it if the mother board cannot talk to it. -
VCDsMakeMoney, Well, i'm afraid if even that didn't work, you better get a new drive, and get a Pioneer 116 or 106, or LiteOn drive, they are the best and cheapest in the market!

If you find out you killed it, you might as well have some fun with a hammer. Work some agression out!
Darryl
PS. Sorry if you did, but I appreciate you posting here so that others don't kill their equipment too. -
Well something similar happened to me too. I flashed my Sony DDU1621. It told me to reboot. At the logo screen, it froze there for quite a while before saying:
Sec master - ATAPI incompatible
Sec slave - ATAPI incompatible
my DVD was on sec master and my cd-rw was on sec slave. I tried using the flash again n it didn't work. I couldn't eject the tray, neither were there any light. Now I've unattached my DVD drive and put my CD-rw as the sec master. Is it dead? Should I give up and get a new one or is there something i can do? -
As i've mentioned earlier, the last thing you can try, is to get a bootable floppy, don't even need CD drivers cause the flasher writes directly to the BIOS of the drive using the I/O address, so just disconnect everything, put your DVD as Master on a Primary IDE, disconnect ALL other drives, boot from the floppy, and try running the firmware, I know it saved my drive.
it MIGHT save yours as well.
