  1. I just got phlilips 642 divx/dvd player
I have smi subtitles that i want to play with my divx files
I tried copying both movie and smi subtitle but didnt work.
So I converted smi file into srt file
    but that still didnt work.

How do I get my subtitle to work with divx file?
is it ssa file? or any special format i need to convert to?
Im using subtitle workshop to convert my subtitles.

Try renaming to avi or use xsubs since this is what it would expect for .divx files.

Also I seem to recall reading for that player that you need to load the subs first from the file menu before playing.

  3. Ya i read that in the hack section too.
But its annoying to do trick every time I load movie.
Is there way I can just use the subtitle button to see subtitles?
If not how do I put the subtitle perminant on divx file?

Well I assume since xsubs are internal streams that they work via the subtitle button. Could also buy a MTK based player. Mine works fine with external subs, no need to load them first.

To do perminant subs, you need to re-encode. Search or look at the guides for more info.

With that player, you have to choose the subtitle first before the movie, everytime...its not automatic. Also, the 642 seems to only be compatible with .srt files.
