I have some video footage.
A snapshot is given below:

Ideally I'd like to get rid of all of the background.
(I asked for advice about this in an earlier post.)
If I can't get rid of the background, then a second alternative would be to cover up blemishes on the video.
For example, there is a patch on the right hand side on the carpet.
I'd use Photoshop and get a graphic to put over the video.
I've no idea how I would do this.
What software can I use?
Any help would be appreciated.

VirtualDub using a logo filter should do the trick.

See my reply to your other post. MSP (and most other video editing apps) can overlay another image on top of your footage. You should be able to make the overlay either transparent (like a partial fade) or solid so it covers the other shot.
