  1. Ok,
So I am trying to Copy a DVD, that plays fine on my computer and other DVD Players. I used Sonic RecordNow to do an Exact Copy.
And when It came out the DVD drives and the other DVD player doesnt recognize the copy that was made. Is there a better way to copy this DVD.
Or better software. Or am I doing something wrong.

Would it be better to rip the Audio TS and VIDEO TS files off the disc on to my computer and then burn them to a DVD.

  2. I used RecordNow earlier today to do the same. No problems. Are you copying to a new brand or type of disk that you have never verified works with your players?

  3. The Discs have worked before.
    though its been a while.
When I put it in the DVD RW drive it read it as a DVD ROM and then froze my compture

It could be a bad batch of discs - it does happen.

Maybe try DVDDecrypter ISO Read / ISO Write ?

BTW, what is this "other DVD player" you're talking about ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

You can get variance in the one spindle - just because the top two discs work in a spindle, doesn't mean the bottom two or any two in the middle will work.

I'd try the DVDDecrypter method I recommended.
    If in doubt, Google it.

and when I go to select the folder, it doesnt find anything, am I missing an Important step here?

Thanks for the help thus far.

You need to start with ISO->Read to copy the disk contents to your HDD as an ISO image, then ISO->Write to burn it back to a blank. DVD Decrypter doesn't support reading DVD files off the HDD.

You can use the free imagetools to convert what you now have to an ISO for decrypter to burn.

  12. I did that it didnt want to burn, but now it seems to burn the MCD file, I let you know if works.

  13. Ok so it finished burning the MCD File. and my DVD drive recognized the disc but it wont play. So I will try agian tommorow to Burn the ISO file.
unless some has a better suggestion.
Thanks to all so far, Progress is being made.

    MCD ? or MDS ?
If it recognised the disk, does it give any error message when it doesn't play, or just ignores the content ?
If you look at the burned disk using your PC, what do you see on it ?
Can you play it with a software player like PowerDVD ?

  15. Periodically the masterminds who churn out commercial DVDs play these kinds of games thinking they're keeping someone from backing up DVDs they already own. I've encountered this occasionally on DVD's I owned. What's happening is that the person in the big studio who authored the commercial DVD threw in some features that stretch the DVD spec to the point where it plays on a DVD player (which tend to be relatively tolerant of out-of-spec DVDs and will often play, e.g., oddball formats like DVDs with MP2 soundtracks whereas plain-vanilla DVDs are supposed to have only an ac3 or a WAV soundtrack, or will play non-standard formats like SVCD even though SVCD isn't an official part of the DVD spec as for example half D1 352 x 480 is) but confuses the DVD duplication features of standard DVD burning tools like Nero and RecordNow.

In this case, the solution is simple but brute-force: you must rip the DVD and re-author it. In my experience this always works. You can always extract a VOB from a DVD and from that you can extract elementary audoi and video streams and from those you can always re-author the DVD using your favorite DVD authoring software.

  16. Ok,
Do you have a software suggestion for this.
I purchased TMEPG EDITOR but what do you suggest for ripping.

  18. Any DVD that plays can be ripped to a VOB file. Either DVDDecrypter or Smartripper will rip a DVD to a VOB. Both programs are free.

  19. Ok So heres the latest.

I used DVDdecrypter to Rip the ISO from the DVD.
then when I went to Write ISO MODE, it burned succesfully.
then I tried playing it in my computer using PowerDVD and it didnt recognize a disc in the drive.
    AH.
    Any other suggestions.
Whats this VOB thing you were talking about.

  20. Are you trying to copy a commercial dvd or a dvd you created?

  21. I'm trying to copy a home made DVD that someone else made.
Its Jeremiah Season 2 on DVD. Its not commerically avaible and the versions I have are high quality but taken from some TV Station.
So as far as I know its not copy protected. Is there a way to check?
I wouldnt think I would have gotten this far if it were protected.

  22. I suspect you are up against this,

"You can record copy-once broadcast programs but you cannot then make a copy of those recordings. CPRM recordings can only be made on CPRM-compatible DVD-RW (ver. 1.1 or higher) discs formatted in VR mode or on the HDD."

  23. ok so, how do I do that, Do I need to transfer them to another sorce like a MINI DV and then transfer it back to my comp.
Is there an easier way then that?

i would mount the iso you ripped with daemon tools

then see if it will play in powerdvd

    if it does

then your original plays, the ripped copy plays, then its your media you are burning to that are dodgey
    Quote Quote
  25. So I went with Sifaga's recomendation. And The ISO played fine, so I tried burning again with Nero doing a 1:1 copy and it didnt work. Does this mean my Blanks are No Good.

Also I will buy new blanks tommorow, but if those dont work what does that mean?

Quit trying to use your PS2 for something it CAN do, but not something it is DESIGNED to do, and use a real DVD player.

Since every copy plays fine in your PC or other DVD players, then it's a combination of your PS2 not liking your media.
    If in doubt, Google it.
