  1. Often , I noticed the following.

I use TMPGEnc to DVD author (Basically from VIDEO_TS to DVD image), then
use alcohol 120 to write to DVD-R, using Toshiba DVD-R writer. These burned
DVD can be played in any dvd player, but unable to play or read from any dvd reader attached to any computer. The dvd reader attached in laptops/desktop does not show a dvd inserted/does not sense the dvd.

Any dvd/region info, I have tried, nothing changes the above details.

But, if I make a VCD, it works both in computer and dvd player.

DVD-R disk are mainly sony or TDK make.

What happens to my computer dvd reader?

    Thanks in advance

Sounds to me like you're creating a UDF image instead of an ISO or UDF/ISO image. I'm led to believe that using the UDF file-system makes the disc unreadable in PC DVD-ROMs, but still playable in settop players.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  3. Hi jimmalenko, Thanks for your help. Looks like that one you said. However, I am using TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6, in which Write DVD folder to DVDR/W button that does not say UDF/ISO but creates ISO images (.iso) and I write using alcohol 120%. Any mistake or setup issues? Thanks again.

    Try Folder2ISO.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. Thanks again jimmalenko. You are right. It looks like TMPGEnc DVD Auther 1.6 puts the file in UDF format. After your suggestion, I tried a DVD with TMPGEnc and the same with Nero Express. The one wrote by TMPGEnc is not readable by computer while the otherone is readble by computer. I appreciate your help.

One more request, how do I recover the old DVDs which is not readable by computer. Is there any software like anydvd (I tried it did not recognize) to use to read that UDF formatted DVDs?

    Thanks a lot.

I think IsoBuster will do this but will need to buy the registered version (US$30).

  7. Hi e494pnf, isobuster needs to read the DVD and expand the files into harddisk. For that dvd is readable by my drive which is not happening or my dvd drive does not recognize due to UDF. Any clue how to make it?

Sorry, I don't have a registered version of IsoBuster so am not familiar with its UDF functions - only that they exist. Hopefully someone else here will be able to help you.

Windows programs (My Computer, Windows Explorer) can't see it because they can't read UDF, but the full registered version of ISOBuster can. Get it ?
    If in doubt, Google it.
