Talking about DivX, I heard that Chinese BBK company has made a DVD player upgradable to meet MPEG-4 standards. Anyway, DivX is coming. But, I cannot tell anything about the quality of BBK products.

  3. @basta61: probable hoax

@Khizhiy: don't know the details about that but from a purely technical standpoint, it is VERY VERY unlikely that a DVD player can be firmware upgraded to play DivX or even MPEG-4. MPEG-4 is different enough from MPEG-2 to require either a general purpose processor to decoded (e.g., a PC CPU -- which is expensive and won't be done) or another specialised decoding chip.

The only way that a player can decoded MPEG-4 is if it had that ability to begin with.
