i'll just copy and paste my comments from a post on another board. any help would be appreciated.
----------
i have recently purchased a liteon 5005 at compusa. it is an ntsc machine and manufactured in july of 2004.
seems like a great machine for the price and i can't really tell if there is the green problem but i am trying to figure out if i have the flicker problem. i have my samsung tivo unit running into it via s-vid and then the dvdr running into my tv via s-vid. now if i am watching tv for a bit i don't really notice any kind of screen flicker but if i hit the guide button to check and see what else is on, i get the menu flickering all over the damn place. is this the infamous flicker problem? anyone to cure it or should i return it and try a different machine?
it is only with playing through the recorder. i use the 5005 like i did my vcr so that i need to turn it on to play the sat signal through to the tv. no if i connect the s-vid directly from the tivo to the tv i have no problem.
i notice it if the directtv menu is up or if the play timeline is on the bottome of the screen.
k so this is even more odd. i tried a bunch of tests when i got home. i turned everything on and waited for the menu flicker to happen. sure enough, about an hour into watching i noticed it. got a dvd ready and recorded it, but when i went to play the dvd on my dvp642 there was no flicker to be found on the menu.
so i try it again, this time i recorded the dwell show from my dvr to the 5005. there is a constant id for the channel in the bottom right that flickers on the white here and there, it'll drop in and out. i go to play it again and there is no flicker when played through the dvp642.
so now i am confused, thinking it may be the s-vid cable. i try both out again straight from the tivo to the tv. no flicker.
could it be the jack in the back of the 5005/video out? because it seems like the video in is fine.
tonight i will try to record some vhs and a full hour from the dvr.
anyone else ever have this problem?

i'm not familiar with tivo, but sounds like copy protection to me. you're running out of tivo into a dvd recorder? i don't think tivo takes to being recorded too well, but i might be wrong?...
