  1. I am in the market for a new dvd player and do not have so much money to spend. It will be used on a Toshiba 32A41 32" regular CRT TV. For sound I am using a Sansui vintage speakers with an Onkyo home theatre receiver. Here's what I need in my DVD Player:

-Quality sound via analog out for DVDs and CDs. (In case I switch to an analog receiver)
    -Great picture quality via S-video
-Compatibility with all kinds of DVD media
-Reliability - Player needs to last at least a few years
    -Compatible with universal remotes
    -Decent Remote
    -MP3-CD Playback
    -Good Interface for MP3-CDs

    Bonuses:
    -Ability to play MP3-DVDs
    -Ability to play Divx/Xvids
    -Good remote
    -Ability to play WMA

Ideally, I would pay at maximum $80 for these features, although I might spend a bit more for a good player.

ALSO: Could you guys give recommendations for both single-disc and multidisc players (at least 3-disc capacity)

Thanks so much for your time,
    -Jonathan.

  3. Yea I agree the philips dvp-642 is probably the best bang for your buck at the moment. I have had one for about 6 months and am about to buy 2 more for my bedroom and for my kids room.

My friend has that Philips DVD player, it is a pretty solid player. My personal favourite DVD player would be the one in my room which is the Malata DVD-2818A. I don't think it is available at Best Buy, but I found it for $35 (CDN) and Canadian Tire. The only problem I found with it was the remote because the batteries would not be making contact with the metal. I fixed that problem buy putting in Duracell batteries, their batteries are tad larger than the average battery (I have two stuck in my RCA remote at the moment). I think your best bet would be with the Philips DVD player because it is easy to find, good price and is reliable. Have fun with your new DVD player when you get it.
