Ok I have ripped and backed up DVD's

I have started authoring my own DVD's

I have started adding basic menus (with TDA)

And at each stage I have used common sense, this forum and the endless knowledge contained within and shared by its visitors, as well as a LOT of patience and have over come various problems.

I will be looking into VHS --> DVD via capture card some time in the future.

But wot i am asking is which program you suggest that i use to start creating a bit more complicated menus and the such. Which could be seen as the next logical step it complicatedness on the learning curve of DVD's

    thanks in advacne

    Hi zworg2,

Well, I've created animated/motion menus with TDA for all of my home-based DVD projects. I suggest if you haven't tried this technique yet that you give it a try with TDA. Use TMPGENC Plus encoder to create small video clips from footage you may already have, and even combine various clips into nice transitions (trust me I've made some wonderful opening/first-play clips this way!) for motion menus and sub-menus.

As for VHS --> DVD capturing, I use my old reliable Sony Digital8 camcorder as an analog-digital passthrough and just save the file to my hard drive in DV format for editing/rendering/authoring purposes.

    Cheers!

DVD-lab or DVD-lab pro is probably the next step, where you have almost unlimited control over what you can do, what things point where, and so on ...

AFAIK it's a free trial, so get down to some reading and knock yourself out !
    If in doubt, Google it.

DVD Workshop is good one too, before you go and buy a single product like that you may want to look at some of the suite of programs available. You can purchase suites for less than buiyng them individually. Adobe, Vegas, Ulead........

I've been suggesting this one: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=285495&...ughType=search

This one has DVD Workshop 1.3, the current version is 2.0. 1.3 has most of the main authoring features as 2.0. You also get the editor, Cool 3-D (which I use quite a bit) and the image editor......... It's quite a bargain considering it's the same cost as DVD Workshop 2. There's trial versions avaialble on their site.
