  1. A friend used to be able to play movie files fine until lately.
When he plays a DVD, mpeg, avi or whatever movie file the picture has a strange look to it.
A sepia glow is the closest I can think of to describe it. The screen setting is up to 32 bit.
He has tried a few codecs (including kazaa lite). Different players (including power DVD, and an up to date media player).
Any ideas what to try next?

I'm reading that this only happens in video playback? That should rule out video card or monitor settings.

If he has a lot of codecs installed or even worse a codec pack , they may be interfering with each other. You might have him try VLC Media Player. It uses it's own codecs, so is usually immune to messed up installed codecs. It's freeware.

If it works, then maybe Codec Sniper or similar to remove offending codecs.
