This has been a might bit frustrating. I'm using Nero 6.0 (I believe) and a Sony DVD R/W 540A. I had hoped to have Nero create a simple CD of jpg images I've taken with my digital camera. The choice seemed to be use "The CD Slide Show" capability of Nero. You get two choices: SVCD and VCD. I tried both with a CD in my writer. In the SVCD case I ended up with a format that I couldn't even read on my computer. In the VCD case I ended up with a CD that had *.dat files plus some other stuff. In neither case could my TV DVD player read these CDs.

I finally just wrote the the jpg images as data to the CD. This works on both of my TV DVD players. This is all very goofy. It took hours of time to find out how simple this could be.

What in the world are the so-called slide show options about? They just don't seem to work even though I have some pretty recent DVD players. One was bought 4 months ago and the other 18 months ago.

I suppose I would like to make a little snappier CD for play on my DVD. Maybe with titles, different time lapses, audio, an intro image. Where in the world do I find this ability in Nero that will work with my TV DVD players? Is there a DVD slide show?

There is this on our site: https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?howtoselect=3;52#3;52 You should be able to get some info there.

EDIT: Nero is fine for burning, but for everything else, there are better options.

  3. Yes, but it seems that his DVD player has some strange problem. Does it play (S)VCD? I'ven't ever heard of a DVD player that play SVCD but it doesn't play slideshow on SVCD! Anyway to play a SVCD o your PC you can use MPC or Power DVD or WinDVD and more and more players, it's strange that you can't play it on your PC.

How do I determine if a Sony DVD plays SVCD or even VCD. From your comments, it sounds like only a PC can play them. I have a Sony DVP-NS575P.

From the left <<<, 'DVD Players' it says it will play them. I have a Sony NS-425P and it works with SVCDs. There are other slideshow programs here: https://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=28#28

I see in the manual for the Sony NS 575P that it says VCD can be played. I'll try it again. I bought some Sony R/W CDs, so I'll have some freedom to play with them. That is, at least I won't be wasting CD-R disks.

Hyper Shinchan - in the past, Pioneer made some DVD players that played VCD and SVCD with no problems, but would not play VCD or SVCD slideshows authored by Nero. Nero does not really follow the standards for making VCDs or SVCDs. For most players, it's close enough, but Nero takes a lot of liberties where maybe it shouldn't, particularly with SVCD. Nero does not correctly convert JPG files for VCD/SVCD slideshows, which is why Pioneer was refusing to play the discs. Pioneer DVD players insisted that slideshows strictly follow the standards for such discs.

  8. Hi jman98! You know, I'm a Nero's fan!
Exactly what are the problems? The file structure, the folder, or what else?

I'm using Nero 6.6 burner. However, in Photo Show Elite transitions and effects cannot be burned on SVCD. I tried VCD Easy but when burning I get this message "failed to mplex audio and video files". Can you suggest trial softwares that can burn transitions and effects for my photo slideshows.
