I'm trying to convert a .mkv video file to vcd (mpeg2enc) but ffmpegX immediately gives me the following error:
**ERROR: [yuvscaler] Could'nt read YUV4MPEG header!
**ERROR: [mpeg2enc] Could not read YUV4MPEG2 header: system error (failed read/write)!
The video file contains a commentary track, as well.

    Video: mpeg4, 448x336, 25.00 fps
    Audio: 0x0000, 24000 Hz, stereo
    Stream #0.1:

Does ffmpegX support this file format yet?

  2. For mkv input you could try mencoder formats and then go back to VCD.

But the video image quality will suffer because of the two decodings, correct?

  4. Nothing visible, as you would encode back to VCD which is anyway much smaller than 448x336 which your source seem to be.

Okay, thanks Major. I converted a small snippet to Xvid and the image quality looks acceptable.
