  1. After getting a BenQ 1620 drive, I was forced to switch from my old Nero 5.5.10.35 (as I recall) to Nero Express 6.3.1.23 which came with the drive.

In Nero 5.5.10.35, I was able to drag and drop the JACKET_P folder, as well as any other data files anywhere I wanted in the compilation, and everything worked fine. The data files were readable under Windows and the video played fine in all players I tried. I assume adding data files to a DVD Video disc does not change it into a mixed or DVD Data format disc?

Unfortunately, when I'm in DVD Video mode in Nero Express 6.3.1.23, no matter what I do to try to add JACKET_P or any other files or directories in the compilation, Nero gives me a "No compatible file found" error message. All it will let me do is add VOB, IFO, and BUP files or create empty directories at the root.

Is there a way to create a DVD Video compilation in Nero Express 6 that has JACKET_P and any other files I want like I could do in the old Nero? If I select DVD Data instead of DVD Video and then create a VIDEO_TS folder will that work OK?

I know lots of people dislike Nero 6, and I also dislike it compared to version 5, but since I have to use version 6 and would rather not buy more burning software, I was hoping someone knew how to get around this stupid limitation of Nero 6. I checked all the help and all the options in Nero, and I couldn't find a solution.

Yes, use the UDF/ISO option when creating a dvd video. Use UDF 1.02 (greater compatibility).

Yo will need to manually create a AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder, drag all your dvd files into the VIDEO_TS folder. In addition, add your JACKET_P folder to the dvd.

  3. I looked all over Nero Express 6.3.1.23 for the UDF/ISO option under both "DVD Video" and "Data" without finding it. Under "More>>" and then "Configure" there are no options like that, and under the "Options..." next to the recorder there is only the book type setting. Where do I find the UDF/ISO option and does it apply to Data only or also DVD Video?

It sounds like the suggestion was to create the DVD in Data mode by manually making the folders and dragging the files, and then the Data mode DVD should play fine in any player the same as if I had started with the DVD Video option?

For the fun of it, I renamed a ZIP file to VOB and Nero 6 finally let me add it. Then I renamed it back to ZIP in the compilation, and everything worked, so it's clear that Nero added this totally unnecessary limitation to the DVD Video option for no particular reason than I guess to make my life more difficult. Unfortunately it's a pain to rename lots of files this way.

Correct. You need to create it as a Data DVD by selecting UDF/ISO Compilation in Nero, i dont know about Nero Express, but I do it in Nero all the time.

The Data DVD Complication will be a compatibale DVD-VIDEO Compilation provided you add the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders. Only difference is you are doing it manually.

  5. When I try to add video files in a VIDEO_TS directory using a Data compilation instead of DVD Video compilation, Nero gives me this warning message:

"You have added DVD Video content to a compilation type that will not result in a DVD-Video compliant disc. To create discs playable in standalone DVD players, please use the DVD-Video compilation type."

I then burned a DVD-RW using the manually created VIDEO_TS folder as a Data compilation, and it won't play on any standalone players. Therefore, the technique suggested doesn't seem to work, and it appears there is no way to create a DVD Video disc with a JACKET_P folder using Nero Express 6.

Apparently Nero Express imposes unnecessary limitations and does not allow choosing a UDF/ISO compilation type in Data mode, maybe to try to force people to buy the full version of Nero, but since they did this I'm angry enough that when I buy something else it will not be a Nero product. All I want to be able to do is what I could on my old Nero 5.5. I would've stuck with Nero 5.5 except the BenQ drive forced me to "upgrade" Nero which was really a downgrade in features and quality. Just my opinions.
