Well I went out and bought this camera a couple months ago to make dirtbike films... We've got tons of footage and it's time to transfer it to edit on my computer.. So I thought I'd be fine hooking it up through USB right? Well I can't get video to transfer over?? I was told I needed a firewire so I went out and bought a firewire cord.. My Dell8250 doesn't have a firewire plug? How can I transfer video off my camera?

You need a firewire PCI card (about $10-15), the USB is for tansferring web quality video and/or still pictures if your cam has that option.

Thanks for your help guys... Went out and got a PCI card today..

NOW I HAVE ANOTHER PROBLEM! Now when I hook up my HC40 via USB to get pictures like I always have done in the past, my computer Beeps like it knows that it's connected yet it doesn't show my Sony memory stick in my computer and I cannot retrieve photos or mpegs... What is going on now?

    Is the ILink also connected?
Maybe it only likes one at a time.

Nope no I-Link connected... I am doing everything that I used to do... I just simply hook up the USB cord to camera and computer and scroll to (Play/Edit) mode and my computer Beeps as if it recognizes that the camera is hooked up, yet I can't find the memory card on the computer...

I have the HC30 and I checked with both the USB and firewire connected (it was preset to av to dv = on from a previous transfer). The camera showed up in my explorer drive list with the LCD automatically showing USB mode and I had no problem reading the pics from my mem card. So I don't think dual connect would be a problem. Maybe you could try it with both connected like I did.
