I'm not able to transfer video from this camera to my PC..
I'm using windows vista...I checked hardware devices and it does have IEEE 1394 host...Texas Instruments...both the camera and the PC have 4 pin connection...I tried the hook up with a 4pin to 4pin firewire cable but the PC does nothing..I guess it's not recognizing the camera..

Can I use any 4pin to 4pin firewire cable to transfer video from a JVC GR-D850U Mini Dv to my PC?..Or It's a special firewire cable?

I would appreciate very much if I can get some advice on how to get this working...

    Thanks.

  2. 4pin to 4pin is a pretty standard cable. turn on the camera in play mode. connect the cable. wait a minute and then check in my computer to see if it is listed. some computers don't announce the connection, it just shows up.

see if winDV transfer software finds the camera.

  4. Have a look at this:

    http://www.enosoft.net/dl.php?filename=_dvconnectivity.pdf

It explains how to troubleshoot DV camcorders and Windows.

Note, your profile shows Vista. One of the really useful features of XP (32-bit) didn't make it into XP (64-bit) or any Vista. Specifically, DV camcorders no longer show up in My Computer. You have to dig into Devices (Device Manager). That's described in the document.
