DVD writer not writing on DVD RW

I purchased a new acer aspire notebook the DVD writer formats the DVD RW but do not write on it . I tried all sort of softwares. The media is Princo. The drive is "slimtype DVDRW SOSW-833S" and it is giving this error "dvd-OW-SPTI-2A-02-05-27-00". please help I am a newbie.in dvd making.

I am using ulead video studio 8 .It is burning a princo DVD R but not DVD RW.

I'd check to see if there is a firmware upgrade available for your writer.

Just for the record, I'd like to say some of the best rewritable media I ever had in the early (1x / 2x) days of DVD writing were manufactured by Princo...

Was the disc you are using a new one and if so what software did you use to format the disc ?

I don't believe that you need to format the DVD/RW in order to write a video file to it, if that's what you are trying to write to it.

I use RW discs sometimes when I'm testing a burn and I never need to format the disc, all I do is erase the contents with DVDdecrypter then reburn the disc.

If you have another new disc I would try that without formatting it first and see what happens !

Yes the disc is new .I tried formatting it with Nero and Ulead video studio and NTI cd & DVD maker . they all do format it, but no luck.
have a pack of DVD rw and all refuse to burn .,while the same company DVD-R is success.

OK, but have you tried burning to these DVD/RW discs WITHOUT formatting them first ? Or are you saying that VideoStudio is demanding that you format them first before it will burn to the discs ?
If VideoStudio doesn't demand that you format them first then just try burning to the blank unformatted disc.
If this still doesnt work then read on,

I've just opened a brand new DVD/RW disc and done a test burn using DVDdecrypter burning an ISO image and I did not have to format the disc before use !

I suggest that your software does not like using DVD/RW discs so here is what I would do,

I assume you are using Ulead VideoStudio to create your movie so rather than burning direct to disc from VideoStudio try this instead,

1) Output your movie as a VIDEO_TS folder to the hard drive, then convert the VIDEO_TS folder to an ISO image using IMGtool Classic Version 0.91.5.
2) Once you have the ISO image burn it to DVD/RW disc using DVDdecrypter in ISO Write mode - try to use a new disc which you haven't formattted with any other program just so you can see that this will work.
3) Once the burn is complete go and test the DVD in your DVD player.

I believe you will get far more success if you use IMGtool Classic and DVDdecrypter in this way to burn your movies, rather than using the inbuilt burn engines used in these video editing programs.

If this works for you, and I'm sure it will, you can then go back and reverse the formatting on your other discs and use them aswell.

By the way what format method did you use on those discs as this may have some bearing on why they wont burn ?

OK i converted the VIDEO_TS folder into iso image with IMGtool Classic Version 0.91.3. and then tried burning with DVDdecrypter.But DVDdecrypter ejected the disk,reason "invalid field in CDB".Then i tried burning the iso file with MagicISO ,it took 5 hours and comes the message "cd burn sucess".But the disc is empty.
I am frustrated now .Please help.

PS. I tried both the new and the formatted disk.

Your drive does not like that disk. Try another type or manufacturer. In my experience, rw's or re-writables are funky sometimes.

This may sound stupid or patronising, but are you definetely using DVD/RW and not CD/RW ?

It's only a thought and it has been done before, so don't take it personally if you really are using DVD/RW.

Quite an assumption.....

Just cos you paid for something, doesnt mean that that is wot u received.

On a number of occasions i have paid for 4x and got 8x or +R and got -R

Hi anjuarora!

You say that your notebook supports DVD RW, but what kind of DVD RW? Is it DVD+RW or DVD-RW or both of them. A DVD burner that supports only DVD+RW can't burn a DVD-RW disc as they are not the same.

If you don't know what type of RW discs your DVD burner support, then here is my suggestion.

1. If you have Nero, user the Nero InfoTool and check in the tabs drive / supported write feature. There should be a marked checkbox in either DVD-RW or DVD+RW or both of them.

2. Make sure you got the correct type (+RW or -RW) and burn again.

3. If it still doesn't work, try a different brand.

Thank You to all of you there to help me out.
I tried writing on this media on friends laptop and it burned and played well on dvd player.
But this is not a solution for me.
Let me write down all about my burner drive and all you genius out there pls see if there is any escape from this problem

I've got a solution, throw that laptop away and get yourself a decent desktop PC with a proper burner such as a Pioneer unit - you'll definetly have less hassles then

Now being more serious, In an earlier post you were advised to check for a firmware update but I see no reference to you having done this so I would again recommend that you check this because if there is an update it may cure your problems.
Keeping the firmware up to date is fairly important as it will allow you to use a wider variety of media with your writer - so check this out.
