  1. Hello,

It has been a long time since I've tried capturing video off of my camera. I am trying to hook up a Sony DCR-PC110 to my D-Link DFW-500 card under Windows XP MCE. When I turn on the camera, Windows detects it and adds an entry under Imaging Devices in the Device Manager, but the connection breaks and the camera disappears within 1-2 seconds. Because I'm running XP MCE, I can't uninstall SP2. Is there any way for me to capture the data?

I've successfully used the card and camera under regular WinXP.

    Thanks.

    Use a net. :P

I've seen quite a few similar posts where SP2 seems to be the common thread. There's a few possible solutions, there was a recent thread where the OP went into device manager and rolled back the driver which allowed him to manually select the correct driver. His cam wasn't disconnecting but inoperable from the start but recognized.

There's also some patches avaialble from MS regarding FW devices but none that I have seen specific to what you describe. You might want to see what you can find there.

    Here's a link I have:

There's also the possibility that something has happened to your cam? Maybe the cable? If you have access to another comp with FW I'd make sure that it's functioning correctly.

One last thing to note, I had a similar issue where the cam would disconnect shortly after connecting to the port on the front of my computer. Connecting it to the rear port posed no problems. the problem was that the front port was connected to my Audigy soundcard instead of directly to the mobo. Connecting it to the mobo fixed the issue. My guess is that there just wasn't enough resources available to run it through the sound card, I think the display card was on the same IRQ as well.

If you have just recentlty installed this card on a new computer try moving it to a different PCI slot.
