  1. I was wondering if anyone knows how or where I can find out how to make a DVD full of DIVX files, with a menu to access each file.

You see I have these Episodes of Doctor Who, and they're in DIVX format and I want to keep them in that format because they take less space on a DVD. I want to put them on a dvd and create a menu to access each episode individually like chapters on a movie DVD.

I have over 200 Episodes and it would take a HELL of a lot of DVDs if I have to convert them, the most episodes I could put on a Dual layer DVD would be 6-7 episodes but if they were in DIVX format I could put a lot more at least double the amount.

Anyways if anyone knows how to do this please let me know how to and which program I could use to do this.

    Thanks for listening,

    Ying

The new divx format may be something for you. Try the new divx converter.

  3. thanks for the link Baldrick, but I think you misunderstood my question! I already have them in DIVX format, I just want to put them on a DVD and have a Root Menu to access to episodes that are in DIVX format on the DVD.

The only way I think I could do this is make a DATA DVD with the DIVX Episodes files on it and click on the the episode I want to play. I wanted an easier way to do this with a Root Menu to access the episodes individually.

I hope you now understand what I want.

  4. Ying Tok, the link you were given allow's you to create menu's...let me clarify it to you. It was something new that just came out

    An extract from: http://www.divx.com/divx/dmf.php

Advanced features of the DivX Media Format

    * XSUB™ subtitles let you author movies with multiple language subtitle sets
    * Interactive video menus offer unprecedented convenience and control so you can quickly navigate between various scenes or bonus features, and select from audio track and subtitle options
    * Chapter points provide flexibility, allowing you to jump straight to the scene you want to watch from anywhere within the video
    * Alternate audio tracks enable audio tracks in multiple language versions or separate audio tracks for specific speaker configurations
    * XTAG™ video tags contain descriptive information like title, author and the video specifications used in the file’s creation to streamline organization
    * The .divx file extension clearly identifies content in the DivX format so you’ll never again be left wondering whether that .avi file will really play in your DivX® Certified device

Yeah, but I dont think you can burn that on a DVD and have it play in set-top dvd players. Each file must be converted to DVD format (MPEG 2 I think) as well as the audio. You can then make a DVD, but only so many episodes will fit on one DVD. Probably better off just leaving them on your PC.

  6. I'm only assuming that the guy is playing on his computer since he didn't make himself clear enough at the start. But yea, true...it won't play on standalone...but i'm guessing that in the future, new players will support it.

  7. It should work on a DVD Player that supports DIVX format?

It would read the disc and start the menu that I would make with the program that you linked me to, also is there a tutorial on how to create these menus with that program?
If so please send me it, or link me to it.

    thanks for all your help!

  8. AFAIK, no Divx capable standalone DVD players support menus or chapters on the disk, usually just a file list to allow you to select which file to play.

If you want that kind of fucntionallity, wait for a player that supports the new divx6 features as mentioned above.

  9. The converter looks very interesting, but I can't find any info on how to make a menu - at least one that looks like the sample on the divx site: the StarWars 'RevelationsSmall.avi' movie at http://www.divx.com/movies/revelations.php?hpd6=dmf-en
which has a very elaborate menu.
I've played a DivX6 movie in my stand-aloneDVD player ok, but haven't tried this one so can't comment on the menu-compatibility.
I like the little gizmo that pops up if you (rename the file as an avi and then) play it in WinDVD or Windows Media Player, which enables/simplifies on-screen/mouse control of the menus.
Anyone any ideas on how to produce a menu such as the one featured in the above movie?
Started out with valve radio, crystal microphone & reel2reel tape recorder with 'magic eye' level indication...

you can always play with the images folder in the converter directory.
thats where the images for default menu are stored
it wont be near the star wars revelation menu but its better than nothing.
I love it when a plan comes together!
