Hi all,
I just set up to capture my tapes from a Sony TRV720 camcorder via FireWire to my PC. The capture software is Premier 6.0.1
I noticed that on the captured footage the very top of the screen is extremely jerky, while the same is not evident when watching the same tape from the same camera on connected to a TV set.
Any suggestion to the source of the problem is greatly appreciated.
Steve

The viewable area of display on a TV set is reduced by "overscan" which basically means you do not actually see the entire image on the screen. NTSC display is I believe 525 lines, of which around 500 are visable. There is a small border area on around the image which is not viewable on the TV but you can see if you are viewing the captured video in a window on your PC. The distortion may have been present on the tape but you just could not see it on the TV. Not sure about the source of the distortion you are seeing however.
