  1. The room I keep the puta seemed a little hot yesterday so I decided to turn it off. To help cool the room down I stuck a Large fan in the room and left it to do its job.
Later on I tried to turn it back on and nothing...
The shut down was an ordinary one.

When I turned it on there is a little life - hard disk front panel light comes on / cpu fan starts but the screen shows 'No display' or something like that.
The hard disk light goes out on the front panel but the cpu fan still runs and the puta just sits there.
SO - since I have never fried a mother board or a cpu chip I would like for someone to put me out of my misery

    many thanks

Unfortunately, it's hard to diagnose a dead computer.

Any beeps from the BIOS when you first turn it on? Even with all the drives disabled or removed and no cards (except the video card) in the computer, you should get the beeps.

If still nothing, I Usually I start substituting parts. Power supply first, then memory modules and video card. If still no go, the motherboard or CPU would be the prime suspects. You could pull the BIOS battery for a minute to reset the BIOS, but you still should have had beeps.

If it wasn't in the middle of encoding or doing something that would really overheat the computer, turning it off shouldn't have caused any damage. It might have just been it's time to die.

If none of the above gets any results, then I would replace the motherboard. Hopefully the CPU and the rest survived.

I wouldn't give up too easy. It could be something as simple as a loose power connector. At this point, It won't hurt to open the case up and look around for anything obvious.

  4. If its only 5 months old, you wont need 150 quid. Its under warranty.

Do you have a MSI motherboard?
If so they usually have a D-Sub (I think its called that anyway). Its basically a grid of 4 LEDs and using their colour configuration you can diagnose where the boot up is getting stuck.
Failing that I've nothing more to add than the other guys....good luck

Try removing, then re-installing all the cards in your system. It's not unusual for connectors to have problems (since your HD access lights work, it pretty much eliminates the power and the main processor / memory as the problem). I had this problem about a week ago, and reseating the video card (AGP) fixed the problem.
