    1. Longest Day VHS ==> DVD. Two tapes so two AVI captures. Encode with CCE-Basic. Author with TDA using the AC3 plugin.

    2. Statistics on the First Captured Tape
    a. (W2K) Right-Click on the AVI File ==> Properties ==> Statistics, lists the length as 7213.46-seconds (2:00:13.460)
    b. VirtualDub operating on the AVI File gives the length of the video as 2:00:13.04 & length of the audio as 2:00:12.81.
    c. After Encoding video (only) using CCE-Basic, TDA lists the length of the .m2v video as 2:00:13;0 ==> 2:00:13.000
    d. Goldwave after extracting the audio from the AVI & converting it to 48-KHz lists the length as 2:00:12.0315. I then used Goldwave's timeWrap function to stretch it to 2:00:13.000.

    3. Statistics on the Second Captured Tape
    a. (W2K) AVI ==> Properties ==> Statistics ==> Length lists the length of the files as 4025.358 seconds (1:07:05.358)
    b. VirtualDub on the AVI gives the video length as 1:07:05.35 & audio length as 1:07:05.22
    c. TDA lists the length of the .m2v video file as 1:07:05;11 which is for 30 fps ==> 1:07:05.3667
    d. Goldwave after extracting the audio from the AVI and converting it to 48-KHz lists the length as 1:07:04.7894. I then used Goldwave's timewarp function to stretch the audio to 01:07:05.367

    Questions ...
    1. Why does VirtualDub and Goldwave result result in significant audio length differences? Both programs work on the captured AVI file.
    2. The length of the video given by VirtualDub is close to the length of the encoded .m2v file given by TDA. But it's not accurate to within one frame (i.e., 1/30 ==> .033-sec) ... why not?

By the way, the method that I use to timewrap the audio in Goldwave to the same length as the .m2v video in TDA results in very good video/audio sync in the authored DVD. I'm rambling now ... I thought I just pass that along ... if anyone is still reading my post.

Bad . Bad idea that , both are incompatable with logical thinking .

1: treat each capture as a single file , as this wont cause problems with audio later .

2: Once each has been converted to mpeg2 type video , go do audio .
3: Audio extracted using vdub (full processing - check fqz is 48)
4: Convert wav audio to 48khz ac3 (you choose if 5.1)

Note : second tapes audio must be same type ....

5: If ntsc , use rejig to author video and audio from video 1 into vob (make these in a new folder)

Note : rejig creates all required files

6: If pal , use ifoedit , to create vob , and required files in a new folder .

    -----------------------------------------------------

Do the above with video two ...

    -----------------------------------------------------

Use any program you like to author them to do menu's , import titles , and go from there .

    -----------------------------------------------------

Rules : treat each video as a seperate unit , and convert seperately , and you wont end up if audio mismatches ...
