  1. Hi,
which MINIMUM, AVERAGE and MAXIMUM bitrate should I use for very good quality and on the other side for maximum compatibility with even old DVD players too ? Of course it will be burned DVD not pressed commercial one....

I use VEGAS 6 for editing and encoding and DVD Architect for authoring.

    Thanx

Bitrate is determined by length of source and available space. Use the bitrate calculator on this site to determine what is required for your particular project. See here https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=VideoHelp_Bitrate_calculator

The maximum allowable bitrate for DVD is 10080kbps, which is derived from both the video and the audio bitrate. Max video bitrate alone is 9800kbps. Some dodgy, cheap player may not play disks authored to the maximum bitrate, so some recommend that the total bitrate be kept as low as 8500. To me that is too low, and if you didn't buy a player up to spec, tough. I generally run mine up to around 9600kbps total bitrate and never have a problem.

Compatability is also impacted by media format (-R vs +R vs bitset +R) and media quality.
