  2. It plays dvd-r's fine. Perhaps you are not recording them properly. You should use ISO (data mode) and make sure your files don't contain QPEL.

The latest firmware update that I'm aware of is 630 v0112

Yes it does...I've used numerous different brands without any issues.

You won't need a firmware update to fix your issue. The only difference between the different versions of firmware deal with subtitles.

I would imagine the Sharp records in standard mpeg2 format, but I'm not sure.

Have you tried a different brand of media?

  7. Have you tried using a different recorder to create a DVD on the same media your Philips is having issues with? Perhaps it is the recorder instead?

Nothing plays? Do your store-bought DVDs play? I've had my Panasonic DVP642 for quite some time, and it plays EVERYTHING I throw into it. What program are you using to burn your DVD-Rs? Are these ones you produced from your personal home movies?, or from backed-up copies of your original store-bought movie DVDs? What is the media brand and media code you are using?
The more you know, the more there is to know...

  9. Well it's most likely your recorder. Perhaps it is using QPEL or something like that.
