You most likely you will have to solder it in. The biggest problem with laptop repair is getting them apart without damage. (And being able to put them back together. ) Sometimes there is info on the web for replacement of the HD, etc., that will give you a start on disassembly.

Most likely the jack is soldered into a circuit board. If you have no experience there, best to find somebody to do it right. If you have the jack in your possession, you should be able to see how it's attached. If you do the disassembly and just have someone remove the old jack and attach the new one, this might be the best or most economical way.

A couple of sites about Dell Inspirion 1100s.

The first has downloadable service manuals for a price:
    http://computerdoc.homestead.com/DellInspiron.html

The second has some photos of internal parts:http://www.impactcomputers.com/dellparts-dell-laptops-dell-inspiron-1100-parts-interna...ssemblies.html

You can find some info about soldering on the internet by doing a Google search for 'How to solder', though I must repeat that I would not do that myself if you don't have the proper tools and expertise. The potential for circuit board damage is pretty high.

Here's a photo that may show what the power jack looks like internally. (Or similar):
