hi,
has anyone tried using the 352x240 ULBR (can reach 360minn per cdr) kvcd template to make a dvd-compliant mpg2?
this template caught my eye coz if it can make a cdr fit 360min, imagine how much video you can put in 1 dvd+r....
any help in making a dvd-compliant mpg2 would be greatly appreciated

The day I see 6 hours of video on a CD, enjoyable to watch on my TV, I'll eat my hat, and any assortment of other accessoirs.
You could of course try authoring it just like any other "VCD on DVD" project to see how it looks.

jimmalenko: ooops.. sorry about that... i meant that the resulting mpg will still be usable for any dvd authoring programs. i used the dvd-lab and it stopped me from using the finished mpg
mats.hogberg & Abond: i made 1 mpg file out of it and it was 80-90mb (23min), quality was acceptable for me -
I don't think 352x240 mpeg-2 is a valid DVD file.
Once you go out-of-spec, compatibility goes out the window. -
According to mpeg.org's specifications, 1/4 D1 mpeg2 is legal.

Yup, that's 1/4D1, and the "k" template will simply change the GOP to about 5000 B frames.
Quality is about that of VHS.
Author in DVDLab, because most others will choke.Cheers, Jim

Sumbitch. Missed that one, eyes went right to the VCD-mpg1 notation on same page.

You get up to 8 hours of sub VHS quality
on a 4.3 gig dvdr, it works on any DVD player,
and is watchable up to 30" (80cm) screen.
The "K" method is blurry, non compliant and
frankly not worth the effort imo. The premise
that the "k" method is VHS quality is laughable -
Thank you for the Compliment, I still use my SxVCD today since it's totaly DVD Compatible, well, basicly if you use DVD Template and reduce bitrate and resolution to VCD it will be the same thing 8)

OK, I hunted...Sefy, can I get a copy of your template?
Are you saying it's basically the DVD template, but at 1/4 D1, and roughly 1150kbps?
I want to compare it to the KDVD templates.
Although I rarely use them any more (disks are just too cheap), I found the full D1 template was reasonable (hence my "about VHS quality" statement)...I had forgotten we were talking about 1/4 D1Cheers, Jim
