  1. I just received a DVD from family in Italy. It is a regular sony DVD-r disc. It does not play on my dvd players. I tried to use Ulead Movie factory to convert the disc. The copy came out fine and plays on my dvd home player, but there is no sound, just video. I also tried using dvd Shrink thinking maybe it was because of the region setting but still no luck. How do I copy this DVD and get it to work in my home DVD player with the audio?

Also it plays fine on my computer.

please any help would be appreciated.

a sony DVD-r disc would not have normally any region codes on it ...

it is PAL and you have to convert it to NTSC or get a dvd player that converts ....

  4. Also, audio may be mp2 and your DVD player may not support that.

why are you using movie factory anyway ?

do you just need to copy the disk ? then just make a copy ....

do you need to convert it to ntsc ? then use the right tools ...

  7. The simplest solution is to buy a $35 DVD player that can perform the PAL to NTSC conversion on playback.

Maybe it's just me.... but he said the video played fine & it was the audio that he is having a problem with . i have never had a problem with "PAL" audio, if there is such a thing

PAL DVD officially supports MP2 audio, NTSC DVD does not. Some (very few) NTSC DVD players will not play MP2 audio.

With NTSC DVD's you can have MP2 audio, but you can not just have that and no other audio on the disc. NTSC discs must have at least either PCM or AC3 audio on there, you can't just have MP2 audio.

Ntsc dvd can have just mp2 audio since most newer dvd players will play svcd, just very few wont play mp2 as already mentioned.

Huh.... i have done a ton of PAL to NTSC conversions and have never had a problem with audio....... just video if the player would not convert the video to NTSC.... which is why i always do the conversion (and not that voodoo patch conversion , a true conversion) and the only time i have ever had a problem was with the video, like if a standalone player would not convert PAL video to NTSC video, the audio was always fine..... and i just convert the video seperate and don't touch the audio at all.... and have never had a problem... and i have tried every method people have come up with... and found only one to work!!! that seem's to be true 8)
