I have searched for over an hour for the answer to this question but i cant find it.. so if its been asked im sorry..
any way
I have 650, 74min cdr disks... and everyone says Nero can burn more then 650megs by turning the overburn on in Nero.. well I go into Nero and try to turn the over burn on.. and well it asks "Maximum Cd Length:" then some boxes to enter times... what do I enter into the 3 boxes for maximum cd length? or if its diffrent for every cd how do I find out the settings, I have checked the cds, nothing.. (I have the CompUSA 100pack disks)
hope someone knows this
and sorry if its been asked alot..

What exactly are you burning? It depends a lot on the media.

I am burning vcd, or svcd.
i have a vcd that is 660megs and it wont fit on a 650meg cdr.. why is that?
Thanks

You ARE choosing to burn a VCD and not a data CD, right? If you've chosen to burn a VideoCD, Nero shouldn't be giving you that msg with a 660MB file.

kay, let's see if we can keep this short.
If i'm not mistaking, you can't overburn a VCD coz overburn requires DAO burning, wich is not standart for a VCD (And doesn't work on all players if you do).
The reason why a 740 MB file should fit on a 650Mb disc is because a "normal" cd uses a sector size of 2048 and some extra bits for error correction. A VCD uses a sector size of 23xx (xx=someting, i can't remeber exactly). There is no error correction data, which causes more vulnerable discs, but with more capacity. (this doesn't explain why it doesn't work with you, but how it should work)
'bout the overburn thingie....
every brand, and even disc can be overburn to a different maximum. The difference between the same brand/type cd's is a lot less then between the brands, but there is a difference.
What i did was set the overburn size to the maximum setting nero supports. This is because at this setting a can burn 76 min. on a 74 min. disc and 83 on an 80 min. As long as you keep in mind what should logicaly be possible this works fine. If you try to burn 99 minutes on a 74 minutes, it will try but never succeed ofcourse !!

Thanks Psycho Dad
I am going to try and set my Nero to maximum and see if that helps.
I will keep you posted!
THANKS!

I use DAO to burn all the time. I don't think it should make much of a difference in compatibility (my opinion) since many people make VCD images and burn those.

Braindrain & Psycho_Dad:
Thanks very much for all the help!! I was able to burn the vcd! WOOHOO!! I put the overburn on maximum and it worked.. thankssorry about the stupid question.

Well, to all who care. I've burned a few DAO VCD's yesterday, and they play perfectly in my Amoisonic 8506F. The disc are overburned, so this works as well. I guess this is an easy way to get just those few bytes extra on a VCD
