Hi.
I am an adult person, so I don't mind. And there's a forum-rule that says:
You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-orientated or any other material that may violate any applicable laws.
Now sometimes my 10-year old son sits and watches me browse these fora. He asked me questions regarding some of the avatars/signatures that I couldn't answer satisfactorily. Like those of DereX888 or b1tchm4gn3t.
I am sorry; I don't want to offend anybody. If this post is unwarranted, the mods may please delete it.
Thanks.

What you refer to is not really breaking a rule, though may be a bit risque. At any rate, this site is not intended for children. I suggest you find another activity for him to do while you partake in your more mature video hobby.
Regardless of what he sees on this forum, there is probably far worse on the tv, and even in comic books.
If he wants to use the computer with you, browse a child-oriented site.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

The best option would be to use Firefox as your browser. Right click on the inappropriate images or avatars and click "adblock image". You will never see the same image again:

I never knew FF had that feature! Nice.

I think you may need to download extensions from mozilla to use it first:

If you want to use Adblock as waheed suggested you have to install the Adblock extension.
edit:
You beat me to it waheed. Thats what I get for watching tv while surfing the internet. -
I was able to block all ads from danasoft without needing anything extra.

I haven't tried it yet but I think Adblock will allow you to selectively block ads.

Umm... go to your profile page and select to not show avatars there - nothing external is necessary. You can also block sigs.

I would think the rule would apply to written text, avator's or anything else that shows on screen.
I think it is a shame that such a useful forum with knowledgeable users is allowed to be degraded by those with the attidude that the rules do not apply to them, or are only applied selectively.
At what age should we allow our children the freedom to explore the imangination via computer technology?
For those that ignore the above rule, is that the way you speak in your own home? Out in public?
I have spent alot of money providing the resources needed to pursue this activity for my children and grandchildren. It is a shame that such a useful source of information as this forum can provide needs to be restricted to them. -

Obviously, I'm too old now because I don't get either one of those. Can somebody explain what they mean, or would that violate forum rules?
-
snafu099,
feel free to make a complaint if anything seriously
offends you. A mod or the Admin will consider it
carefully. However, as a general guide, what is
considered "worksafe" is mostly acceptable
here. War, politics and religon is out. -

and now for the italicised section:
"You agree not to post any obscene material that may violate any applicable laws"
Now reading it that way, it would seem that everyone is only agreeing not to do anything that breaks any applicable laws. In terms of language, I think the precedent has already been set - IIRC, Baldrick has gone on record as saying that swearing within context is OK, but " ... just not in the ******* subjects ..."
Also, I just wanted to point out this excerpt, which I happened to find while browsing earlier:

I'd suggest you set the example first before judging everyone else. Otherwise it's a big pot-kettle-black situation for you ...If in doubt, Google it. -
Damn, I was all ready to make a speech about how I don't like looking at those avatars much either but I believe if your children ask you questions then you should just go ahead and answer them...
but jim pretty much covered all that's left to say. -
A 10 year old should be starting to learn about the birds and the bees already anyway.
His name was MackemX
What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend? -
Conquest10, if it was just the birds and the bees it
might not be a problem - people tend to
introduce new species.
