  1. Hi,

Is it possible to use something like Roxio VideoPack5 to burn 2 or 3 MPEG-1 movies on to a DVD-RW and have a stand alone player think it is playing a VERY BIG VCD?

Will save lots of discs if you can fit 2 or 3 movies on to 1 DVD.

    Thanks.

  2. I can't speak for VP5 but I have done it in a sneaky way with Ulead's DVD Movie Factory. All the parameters for the encode are the same as VCD except the audio which I select 48khx and I set mpeg 2 encoding.

  3. I have been trying to figure out a way to use Ulead Movie Factory with mpeg1 to create DVDs. If you could go into more detail as to how you accomplish this I would greatly appreciate it. I understand the audio in these mpeg1's needs to be 48khz but what do you mean by "I set mpg 2 encoding"? When starting the DVD wizard do you start from DVD or VCD template, etc.

    Thanks

  5. Select make a movie or batch process. Select the Custom Template. Click on the compression tab and under Media Type Select NTSC VCD. This will set the VCD specs. Now change the Media type to mpeg 2. This will open up tour audio and video type and bit rates. Change the audio to 48Khz and tweak up the video data rate if you like.

  6. Are we talking about authoring or encoding?

I thought we were talking about authoring but wouldn't be the first time I was wrong

  7. You can't make a VCD on DVD media.

You can however, obviously, make DVDs on DVD media. The DVD standard allow MPEG-1 files of certain specs to be on a DVD. Essentially, MPEG-1 files for VCDs fit most of the criteria bar that the audio sampling rate (44.1kHz as opposed to the 48 kHz required). As long as you fix this (or if your authoring proggy can do if for you), then you can use MPEG source files otherwise fit for VCDs on a DVD.

DVDMF will not accept MPG 1. You have to encode in MPG 2.

  9. You can have MPEG1 files but you need to have 48k for sound and then you need for your bitrate to be 1850 which is DVD standard. If its 1500 then it will not play properly.

I have so far fitted 3 x VCDs onto 1 DVD

    2 x 1.48 gb Time 99mins 56 x 2 = 200 mins
    1 x 890,603kb Time 87 mins 11

Total = 3.90 nigh on - 287 mins bit short of 450 mins in the guide, this was using spruce.

When playing normal MPEG 1 files with audio converted then the screen would either go green or the screen would freeze.

This is with the unregistered version. I am just playing around with the rambo trilogy and see what happens there.

I have seen a DVD with Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter and also Monster Inc on there, but someone is saying about home DVD recorder recording in a form of Long Play but being compatible when you copy the CD.

I`ll probaly run a test on those as well as Lord is about 3 hours or so I think.

  10. OK, using some other advice on this forum, I have got it to work using VideoPack5.

Need to De-Mux and make the audio 48khz using TMPEGEnc.

Then use VP5 to Re-Mux to a .VOB - The size meter is broken so don't pay any attention to it when adding files to your project.

Make sure you have SP1 (and the XP update if using WinXP) from the .de site and making chapter points and adding music to the menu will all work correctly.

I did get it working with SpruceUp (see http://www.vcdhelp.com/vcddvdr.htm ), but VP5 is much nicer and has a lot more features.
