Sounds like your DVD player doesn't play MP2 audio.

I find that ripping the DVD to one big VOB using DVDDecrypter and then demuxing it using VOBEdit is probably the easiest way to isolate the video and audio streams. You can then convert your audio to AC3 using ffmpeggui, besweet or belight. Then reauthor the M2V and your converted AC3 file using your favorite authoring software.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Question to anyone in the know. Personally, I've never had a DVD player that didn't recognize MP2 audio. But, I'm curious whether DVD player manufacturers are moving toward embracing MP2 compatability or away from it. Also, is there a list of DVD players that don't recognize MP2 audio?

One would assume that this means that the DVD Player in question doesn't support VCD or SVCD. Either that or it's just really picky that MP2 audio isn't part of the NTSC DVD Spec.
    If in doubt, Google it.

alec west raises a good point here.. i've ran in to many crappy dvd players (even expensive ones).. but i've never ran in to one that wouldnt play mp2 audio.. and i did go through a phase there for a while where i was patching svcd mpeg file headers and using mp2 audio..

can someone let us know where this magical mp2-less dvd player is?
