Hello Everyone, I have been trying to use the QT 7.0.1 (Pro) H.264 encoder to shrink my growing collection on .dv files. I have not been able to make it work without the results being interlaced. I have tried running it through JES de-interlacer (output being to QT H.264 encoder), but to no avail (output either has no video, or no audio, or is still interlaced).

DiVA works nicely (albeit with no sound) for VOB files, but not .dv.

Anyone got a fix for this?

    Running 15", 1.5Ghz Powerbook with 1Gig Ram. QT7 Pro, OS 10.3.9.

    Cheers,

Is the problem specifically H.264? I have used JES to export to MPEG4 with no problem, at DV size, 50fps. Another option is to use Openshiiva, which handles DV very well, but again will only convert to MPEG4. I've done a little bit of DV to H.264 but I simply exported to half size (384x288) using QTPro, which removes the interlacing by default, but of course you're losing a lot of image data, although the results still looked excellent. Although it's excruciatingly slow, H.264 does look better than MPEG4.
Go off and rule the universe from beyond the grave. Or check into a psycho ward, whichever comes first, eh?

    Thanks for the reply.

I have been using OpenShiiVA as well for MP4 stuff, and quite like it (3iVX is good). I tried a number of different exports from QTPro yesterday (Sorrenson, MP4) and got the same result. They were all at high data rates (round the 4-6 KB/sec). The De-Interlace option in the Movie Properties had no effect.

I would really like to get this working as playback of H264 files are smoother and looks better.

    Thanks again,

    Cheers,
