  1. all,

i'm a newbie. can't seem to find the exact advice i need, so am posting this question. sorry if i'm threading old ground!

i want to capture from a vhs source, in avi format, at 720x576.

which capture card will allow me to do so?

also, will virtualdub be compatible with such a card? or what other software would you recommend. something that will allow me to capture in near lossless codecs like Huffyuv?

    my system:
    winXP (sp2)
    athlon xp1800
    512 mb ram
    200 gb hard drive

    thanks in advance.

  2. All avi capture cards (that I'm aware of) will capture Full D1.

I love these BEST questions --

the BEST would be (to capture in lossless or uncompressed) a DPS Perception card or Bluefish 444 or a decklink card or a AVID system

And I seriously doubt they are compatible with your budget

  7. After you decide on a capture card, take a look at Virtual VCR for capturing.

  10. Why not just get a digital TV capture card with analogue in? they all handle 720 x 576 (to my knowledge, certainly the one I have does, and I have seen others) and if it only outputs Mpeg2 - re-encode the Mpeg2 stream to AVI? You get em from around $150 in my neck of the woods.

BJ, just read your last post. Have you ever seen the british crime series Craker? It might be right up your alley.
On the card thing, you would be fine with the Leadtek Expert ($45 at Newegg). Capturing huffyuv is more demending on your HD than the card.
