  1. This will probably sound crazy to most of you, but I'm converting some DVD's of mine from 2.35:1 into 1.77:1. I know this is considered murder by some peoples standards, however I'm doing this so I can play them back full screen on my 16:9 PSP. However, I'm having trouble getting it to work. I realize that I will crop picture off both sides of the frame, however, I don't want to do any scaling or stretching of the video. In other words, I want the video to zoom while cropping the edges. After decrypting my dvd like normal I find that VirtualDubMod recognizes my NTSC VOB files as 23 frames per second. This in turn is throwing off my audio synch. Isn't there any way I can tell VirtualDub that the file is in fact 29.97 fps? For some reason it thinks the file is PAL. I've tried everything but I really can't get this to work.

  2. Use VirtualDubMod, select Video, Frame Rate.

Select the "Change To" box in the Source Rate Adjustment frame and enter 29.976

Select the "Convert to fps" box in the Frame Rate Conversion frame and enter 29.976

You can use the resize filter in VirtualDub to "crop" the DVD video source from an aspect ratio of 2.35 to 16:9 by changing the horizontal and vertical sizes (x and y axes) of the output file.

  3. VirtualDubMod doesn't respect telecined (pulldowned) frame rate change. That is your vob's are telecined (that means the real frame rate is 23.976 and it was applied pulldown to get 29.97 playback). The audio synch should be fine.
    PAL is 25 fps. 8)
